The District Nurses care for patients in their own homes when they are too ill or frail to attend surgery. They also offer support to families and carers.

Health Visitors

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.

Health visitors are specialist nurses who offer advice and support to expectant mothers, and families with children under five. The health visitors are based in Children’s Centres and visit all parents and new babies and those families transferring in to the Brighton area.

Community Psychiatric Nurse

A team of CPNs is based at Millview Hospital. The CPNs are available to visit people with mental health problems at home, by arrangement with their psychiatrist or GP

Training practice

We are a training practice, which means that we have been approved for undergraduate and post-graduate training of GP registrars. Registrars are fully qualified doctors preparing to enter general practice and their training is supervised by Dr Bird. They normally stay with us for up to year. During this time the registrar sees patients in his or her own clinics. Part of this training involves analysis of videotaped consultations, and so you may be asked for permission to record your consultation with the registrar. (However, this will only be done with your written consent, and if you decide not to have the consultation recorded, it will not affect the care you receive in any way).

The practice is regularly inspected as a training practice and this involves inspection of the medical records. Only doctors approved for this purpose will inspect records and they will respect completely the confidentiality of this information. Patient records will only be disclosed with you written consent.

We also assist in the training of students at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School and on occasions you may be asked if a student may be present during your consultation. If you would prefer this did not happen please inform reception and they will pass on your wishes to the doctor.

Foundation Year 2 doctors will be attached to the practice from September 07. They are fully qualified doctors who will be supervised by the GP partners.

GP net earnings

All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (e.g. average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice. However, it should be noted that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice and should not be used to for any judgement about GP earnings, nor to make any comparisons with other practices.

The average pay for GPs working at Beaconsfield Medical Practice for the last financial year was £77,403 before tax and national insurance. This is for 1 full time GP, 10 part time GP’s and 1 locum GP who worked in the practice for more than 6 months.
